The Forsyth Police Department will be conducting an impaired driving enforcement campaign during the month of May.

Police Chief Jack Gates says components of the campaign include saturated patrols, increased presence in areas known for motor vehicle accidents and a sobriety checkpoint:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that intensive enforcement of DWI violations with highly visible sobriety checkpoints may reduce alcohol-related fatalities by as much as 15 percent.  In financial terms, that could save the public over 57-thousand dollars per checkpoint event.

how effective? - 04/30/2012 5:59:24 AM
Just yester day I followed a car through Forsyth that croossed the centerline several times, however he was in the correct lane as we passed a patrol officer sitting @ the bank. I am not sure how stationary observation is doing the job. Good luck to the effort they are proposing as there is a need for enforcement.

GET OUT IN THE CITY BE KNOWN! EXPOSURE IS THE BEST PREVENTIVE ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN!! WE DON'T REALLY NEED UNMARKED CARS HIDING IN PARKING LOTS TO PREVENT VIOLATIONS! PREVENTING VIOLATIONS SHOULD BE PRIORITY ONE! DO THAT BY BEING SEEN!LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU'RE OUT THERE!! Conducting an impaired driving enforcement campaign should be a year round campaign!! As a for police officer I don't think crime prevention should be scheduled except as a full time campaign
everywhere!!! - 04/30/2012 9:03:48 AM
I agree 100% with Earl! Evrybody knows that they are there trying not to be seen, but whether they know it or not we know where there are. And They need to start with the "drug task force"! It's is happening down every street I don't understand why they can't open their eyes upon that and do somthing better than just slapping their hands and saying no more! Just BS in my opion then you have some of their own men (cops) doing the drugs rite along with them! ya that's sure gunna help alot! I just believe there needs to be alot of changes in this city!!!
