Chester Vaughn of Hollister claims he’s owed several hundred dollars by the construction company he works for. A company he says that has been doing tornado cleanup in the tri lakes area, including carpentry, painting and roofing.

While the Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri doesn’t handle these types of complaints, President Judy Mills has some suggestions for contract laborers who run into alleged payment issues:

Mills says her office isn’t aware of any issues with the company owner.

A spokesperson for the State Attorney General says an official complaint against the construction company has not been filed with the AG’s office in Jefferson City.

The State Department of Labor says it can’t confirm if any complaints have been filed against the construction company, and a spokesman couldn’t say whether an investigation is underway.

HometownDailyNews.com has been unable to reach the owner of the construction company in question. A message, asking for comment over the payroll allegations, was left on his cell phone. Branson City Hall confirms the company is licensed with the city.

It is our policy not to name the company, unless official charges are filed.

The Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri is out today with a warning about what it refers to as storm chasers - construction companies who follow storms by cleaning up and repairing the damage, but may not pay their employees in a timely manner, if at all.

B-B-B President Judy Mills says there isn’t much her office can do if a complaint is filed, but staff will refer allegations to a couple of different state agencies:

At least one local contract laborer says he and others are owed several hundred dollars in recent weeks from a construction company doing work in the Branson area.

B-B-B President Judy Mills says there isn’t much her office can do if a complaint is filed, but staff will refer allegations to the Attorney Generals’ office and the State Labor Department.
