Board Wants to Reach Seniors in Outlying Areas
 Members of the Taney County Senior Citizens' Services Board (file photo) By: Sally Kaucher The Taney County Senior Citizens’ Services Board is charged with distributing the funds collected by the tax levy that was approved by voters in 2010 to improve services to senior citizens. Last week, the board approved a 20-thousand dollar grant for new kitchen equipment, flooring and labor for installation at the Branson Senior Center. The senior tax also paid for upgrades last year at the Senior Friendship Center in Forsyth. Senior Board Chairman Don Ingrum says while such expenditures are important for the seniors who use those centers, board members also want to reach out to the seniors in such outlying areas as Protem, Rueter, Cedarcreek and Ridgedale… Ingrum says with two OATS buses primarily operating in Forsyth and Branson, additional transportation exclusively for senior citizens will be implemented within the next 30 days. The senior board previously approved a grant for the purchase of an additional bus for the OATS transportation system, and to provide for its operation. The Taney County Senior Citizens’ Services Board meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:30 at the courthouse in Forsyth. =====(2nd version)===== The Taney County Senior Citizens’ Services Board wants to reach out to seniors who live outside the main population areas of Forsyth and Branson. Many seniors utilize the OATS transportation system, operating mainly in Forsyth and Branson. Senior Board Chairman Don Ingrum says a third bus for the OATS system will be up and running soon to expand that service… Ingrum says he and the other board members are also discussing ways to meet with seniors in such outlying areas as Protem, Rueter, Cedarcreek and Ridgedale. He says many senior residents of Taney County are unable to easily get to the senior centers in Forsyth and Branson, so the board wants to find out what those residents need, and the best way to get those services to them. The Taney County Senior Citizens’ Services Board meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:30 at the courthouse in Forsyth. Board members are responsible for the distribution of funds from the senior tax levy approved by voters in 2010.
