A group of 8th graders from Shawnee Kansas are doing their part to help the Branson Salvation Army, as the city recovers from the February 29th tornado.
The students from Midland Adventist Academy today are donating non-perishable food and financial donations they collected during a recent bake sale fundraiser and food drive at their school located near Kansas City.
One of the students said a lot of people think a class trip is just about having fun – but we’re a Christian school and we should practice being a blessing to others and not just ourselves.
The local Salvation Army suffered more than 170-thousand dollars in damage during the tornado, including the roof, several windows, a passenger van – and much of the food in the organization’s food pantry was either damaged or had to be thrown out due to the power outage after the storm.
The students also plan to sort and pack the food they collected, as well as help with general on-going cleanup efforts.
