Branson Citizens Encouraged to Submit Ideas for Time Capsule

Branson area citizens are invited to help make history as our community creates our Branson Centennial Time Capsule – to be opened in 50 years – at the Sesquicentennial Celebration for Branson.

“Now is the time to get involved in the biggest Celebration of the Century!  Branson’s Centennial Time Capsule Committee is inviting each of our unique ‘Community Sectors’ to take a ‘Snapshot of Life in Branson’ in 2012, to be opened in 2062,” said Jory Rolf, chair of the Branson Centennial Time Capsule Committee.

“We are looking for great ideas from area residents that will best represent each of our unique community sectors to share with Branson’s future Branson in 2062,” Rolf said.

Area citizens can submit ideas for any of the following Community Sectors to their representative on the committee:  Theaters (Jim Barber); Businesses (Edd Akers); Healthcare (Neil Frost); Government (Raeanne Presley); Lodging (Laurie Hayes); Attractions (Erin Wicker); Education (Peter Marcellus); Faith Community (Howard Boyd); Environment (Mona Menezes); Veterans (Ernie Bradley); Non-Profits (Bonnie Herrmann); Youth (Jory Rolf); Seniors (Florence Parnell); Media (Monna Stafford).

All ideas will be considered and processed according to the Branson 100 Time Capsule Guidelines (determined by the Branson 100 Time Capsule Steering Team).  “Not all ideas can be included in the final time capsule, but don’t miss this opportunity to come together as a community as we take our ‘Community Snapshot’ of Branson 2012,” said Jory Rolf.

Citizens are also encouraged to watch for opportunities to view the Branson 100 Time Capsule on display throughout our community this summer and fall, and to join our community-wide Branson 100 Time Capsule Ceremony Celebration December 2 – where all items will be inducted into the Time Capsule Vault to be sealed and opened in 50 years.

Please go to: www.branson100.org for more information – including contact information for your community sector representative, guidelines and timeline.  Or contact Jory Rolf: 417-598-1314 or jory@ozarkmountainlegacy.org.  All Branson Centennial Time Capsule “ideas” should be submitted to the committee by May 17, 2012.

I seriously recommend a stuffed trout, representing a major portion of our tourism activities - fishing on our beautiful lakes. Why? Might not be the same in 2062. I know it may sound weird, but with the wild climate changes, water pollution, and growth hormones used in so many products, the 2012 trout may have legs. Kinda kidding, but the Lakes have been such an important part of Branson's being for so long, I think a mounted trout would be a whimsical tribute to the legacy the lakes have with Branson.

I think we all remember fondly, the old lakefront, before the Landing was built. I think something from the area of the old lakefront should be added. Perhaps a piece of the old Liberty Tree? Something though, to remember the History of what was, and shall never be again of Historic downtown Branson.
