Fire Damages Taney County Home

A Taney County family is looking for another place to live after their rental home was damaged by fire Saturday morning.  Western Taney County Fire Chief Chris Berndt says the fire started when a man went from his garage to the kitchen to check on his breakfast, igniting a gasoline-soaked rag when he set it down next to the stove.  Berndt says the man tried to put out the fire with a hot pad, but threw it down when he burned his hand, igniting a fire on the living room sofa…

Berndt says the man living at the home had just wiped up a gasoline spill in the garage, and carried the rag to the kitchen where he laid it down next to the stove.  When the rag caught fire, he used a hot pad to put it out, but burned his hand and threw it onto the living room sofa, starting the fire.
