By: News Release
Posted: Saturday, June 02, 2012

The Tantone Farmers Market is held every Friday until September 28.  The market will be open to the public between 8:00 am and Noon.  Support local farmers and vendors while shopping from an array of fresh fruits, vegetables and other local goods.

FARMERS AND VENDORS who wish to participate should contact Tantone to reserve their spot.  Cost to set up is $5 each Friday.  You may pay in advance for the entire 19 weeks, for a cost of $80 (a $15 savings).

Due to Health Department Regulations, we will ONLY be able to allow vendors to sell the following food:

1.  Unprocessed whole fruits and vegetables

2.  In-shell nuts

3.  Other whole agricultural products

You may remove the outer husks from corn, outer leaves from cabbage, and cut off tops of carrots or beats.  You may NOT cut corn from the cob, slice tomatoes, etc.  YOU MAY NOT GIVE OUT SAMPLES OF FOOD.

4.  Canned Jams, Jellies and Honey

5.  Baked Goods

We will NOT be able to allow vendors to sell the following food:

1.  Meat of any kind

2.  Dairy of any kind

3.  Eggs

4.  Processed food

5.  Canned pickles, relishes, acidified food of any kind

VENDORS should contact Tantone for complete and specific guidelines for food vendors in the Farmers Market.   Vendors will also need to complete the Tantone Farmers Market Vendor Application.  Attached you will find the Vendor Application, Specific Health Department Guidelines and Advertising Flier.

too many rules and regulations for local farmers - 06/02/2012 3:04:09 AM
it appears that obama rules and regulations will strangle & kill this local-so called farmers market. this is a government market not a local farmers market! we local farmers will NOT tolerate this kind of interference that obama's liberal Democrat government that is strangling our hard fought for freedoms here in America. Let Freedom Ring Once More in America. Vote for Mitt Romney on Nov 2,2012.

Here we are in the heart of middle America abundance. And government intrudes on the selling of farm products. Folks have been consuming farm eggs, milk, relishes etc for many years... We need MORE INFRINGMENT OF FREEDOMS!
how do they expect farmers market to succeed? - 06/02/2012 10:58:43 AM
with so many rules and regulations how do they expect this farmers market to succeed? country mart passes out free samples of food, for Pete's Sake. the springfield farmers market passes free samples of food too. up at Bakersville- Heirloom Seeds dot com in Mansfield,Mo---Jere Gettele give free samples of his home gron veggies. it seems to me that tantone has got too many rules. that scarews the general public off like a recent tornado coming thru Branson!

Obama? Seriously? Way to cloud the issue. Obama has had jack to do with food handling regs...even at the federal level. Thay've been aound for years. Additionally each state determines food handling guidelines for food sales to the public as well as to commercial interests. The article mentions local health dept regs but I suspect the ridiculous rule set has more to do with your locals than the fed, state, or even local health dept rules. Too bad. Farmers need a break and need to be able to sell value-added directly to customers as well. Nothing will ever get any better unless we're willing to objectively look at the actual root of individual problems and change it there. Villification based on farce isn't helping you or the other side.
