Safe disposal of old and unwanted medications reduces the potential for abuse.  They can now be dropped off at a tamper-proof box in Stone County.  Health Educator Kim King is with the Stone County Health Department…

King says proper disposal also keeps medications out of the water supply.  Unused, unwanted or expired medications can be dropped into the box 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the lobby of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office in Galena.  A second box will be available as of August 1st at the Kimberling City Police Department, Monday through Friday 8 to 4.   Lotions, ointments or liquids are not accepted.

Why would someone walk into a police station with medications when they could put them down tne disposal without any snooping? Can't folks do this anonymously? You would get more drugs safely disposed of that way.

"King says proper disposal also keeps medications out of the water supply." How do you think they medications would get into the water supply? Putting them down the disposal is not safe disposal.

Never ever ever flush medications or pour down the sink. Sewage treatment plants are designed to treat sewage, not pharmeceuticals. The drugs you flush go straight into Taneycomo. Drop boxes are "no questions asked." Or to dispose of drugs safely at home use this method: http://bransonmo.gov/pw/pdfs/HowtoDisposeofMed.pdf
