Arkansas Casino Supporter Wants More Time to Collect Petition Signatures

A Texas businessman seeking the right to open several casinos in Arkansas is asking state officials for more time to gather petition signatures.

Michael Wasserman is seeking another 30 days for his effort, after state election officials said he came up short of the original number of signatures needed to place the proposal on the fall ballot.

If approved, Wasserman’s plan calls for a number of new casinos across the state, including one in Boone County, just south of the state line from Branson. Locally, Harrison’s Mayor has said he supports the idea of gaming in his county, while Arkansas’ Governor and head of the state division of tourism have both said no to adding any new casinos.

We can only hope this extension is granted and he can gain the necessary number of signatures. We need this employment in the area badly. Shucks, it might even cause wages to go up a little around here. Therein lies the big problem. Wages...business does not want to pay more than minimum wage. In this area minimum wage should be no less than $10.00 an hour, and the same $10.00 for waitresses. This $3.93 for a waitress is downright thievery.

To We can only hope. When the Branson Landing was being discussed for construction the big push was it would bring jobs that pay better and have more benefits. Most of the stores that started there are gone and the rest only have benefits for management. Very few workers make more than minimum wage and work less than 30 hours a week so they are not eligible for benefits. A Casino will be no different. Go to Down stream some time and ask any waitress where her second job is.

Go to Down stream some time and ask any waitress where her second job is. The Branson way, downplay gambling from the get-go. The Mayor of Harrison is for it, he says he is tired of those folks passing through Harrison on their way to Branson and they see no revenue from them. This statement has got the Branson City fathers worried...no doubt. People here are not against gambling, you will see them at the Casinos or Vegas, but they are against raising wages, and will do what it takes to try to prevent a raise in the wage.
Minimum Wages Forever In Branson - 07/21/2012 7:17:13 AM
Minimum Wages Will Probably-No Doubt About It- Will Be Paid Forever In Branson because this is the way to control people. Keep Em' Hungry and In Debt, low wages, high taxes and rent, high food costs is what makes the Branson areas largest employers richer and the poor people-poorer. Dr Hook sang & said:'The rich keep on getting richer and I can't even get my picture on the cover of the Rollin' Stone'. We are a nation divided right smack down the middle. The Holy Bible states that a house divided cannot stand. But, I choose to believe America will remain standing after we vote a conservative POTUS in November's general election. May GOD bless America one more time. Remember Rodney King's words-"Why Can't We All Get Along'? May the skin off an old dark gooseberry make an umbrella big enough to cover all your troubles.VIYA CON DIOS
