Funeral services for Joan Ione-Gardner, 84, recently of Hollister, Mo., will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 11am; viewing at 10 am. Bishop Tom Brett will officiate. Services are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson. Mrs. Gardner entered into rest on March 18, 2017 at the Cox Medical Center, Branson, Mo.
Joan was born March 26, 1932 in Phoenix, Az., to Thomas J. and Amanda L. (Hicklin) Simon. She was one of twelve children; the only one born in a hospital. When Joan was in grade school, her mother moved her and three sisters to Montrose, Colorado where she married Frank Newby. Joan graduated from Montrose High School, where she met her sweetheart Stan Gardner. She later attended various colleges to further her education.
Joan married Ralph Stanley Gardner on September 28, 1951 in San Antonio, TX. They had celebrated forty-nine and a half years of marriage before his passing March 21, 2001. Their union was blessed with five children.
In addition to having been an Executive Assistant throughout her career, Joan was the registrar and regent for the local D.A.R. in Claremore, OK. She liked to quilt, do genealogy, and was an active member in her church. Joan was talented in painting, cooking, and arts and crafts. She liked to travel, especially to visit her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Stanley Gardner “Stan” and her youngest son Todd James Gardner.
Joan is survived by her children Michael Gardner of Claremore, OK.; Mark Gardner and Cheryl Goodman both of Hollister, Mo.; Cathy Ulrich of Reno, NV., her only remaining sibling Joyce Felix of Lindale, TX.; eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren – twenty-one in May. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She told everyone she met that she would have twenty-one great grandbabies very soon.
Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery in Montrose, Colorado, under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, Montrose, Colorado.
