It’s been three years since Herschend Family Entertainment closed its Celebration City Theme Parkon the west side of Branson, just off Highway 76. And many wonder what’s in store for the site of the once popular night time attraction, owned by the same company that runs Silver Dollar City, White Water and the Showboat Branson Belle.
Herschend Family Entertainment Co-Founder Pete Herschend sat down recently with HometownDailyNews.com for an extended interview. He said Celebration City is still talked about, but it’s not high on the company’s radar screen.

Herschend said it might not be his company that re-opens the theme park, or transforms it into another attraction.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says it has no plans to extend the Ozark Mountain Highroad to 376 in the near future, due to recent budget cuts within the department.

A Mo-Dot spokesman says the agency has no immediate plans to extend the Highroad due to recent state budge cuts.
Herschend Family Entertainment first opened CelebrationCityin 2003, after a multi-million dollar renovation. The company closed the sister park to Silver Dollar City at the end of the 2008 season. It was themed after America in the 20th century, taking on the look of old Route 66, with several rides, shows and games for the family.
