The Taney County Regional Sewer District Board meets today for the first time since becoming an entity separate from county government. Board members, then County Commissioners, voted unanimously late last week to approve an intergovernmental agreement which separates the entities, as was the original intent when the district was formed in 1983. The separation meant issues large and small were discussed. Even before discussions about separation began, the Sewer District was looking at increasing rates to cover costs which have gone up over the past few years. The Taney County Regional Sewer District serves some 23-hundred customers. Those customers will see an increase in their sewer rates on their April bill, reflecting the rate hike effective March 1.

The agreement means employees of the Sewer District no longer work for Taney County. Even before discussions about the separation began, Sewer District officials were discussing customer rates, and the need for an increase to cover the higher costs of the past few years. A rate increase effective March first will appear on the April bill.
