Less than three weeks remain until the deadline for items to be certified to appear on the April ballot.  The Taney County Library District Board is hoping the question of a county library system and the 20-cent tax levy to support it will be approved for that ballot.  Board member Roxanne Young told county commissioners that voter approval of a countywide library would mean jobs for the system as it currently exists.  She says the three privately operated libraries in Branson, Forsyth and Rockaway Beach are running out of volunteers…

The deadline for ballot items to be certified for the April election is January 24th.  If that doesn’t happen, the library issue could appear on the ballot in August.

The Taney County Library District Board wants the question of a countywide library system to go before the voters in April.  Board member Roxanne Young told county commissioners that voter approval of the library and supporting 20-cent tax levy would mean some new jobs…

Young says hiring more library employees would mean hours could be extended at the existing facilities, and perhaps the eventual operation of a bookmobile.  She told commissioners the three privately run libraries in Branson, Forsyth and Rockaway Beach are largely run by volunteers, who are gradually being lost.

What Makes anyone think that the Libraries really desire to be under a "political umbrella"? Forsyth Library has done very well over the past years, with private funding and a friendly librarian and volunteers. Branson library can't compare to the quality of Forsyth's organization. Rockaway Beach library leaders also work diligently to maintain their own identity. Roxanne Young, may well be a board member, but elected by who?

The Forsyth Library is one of the best small town libraries I have ever seen. The resources/books are outstanding! The people that work there are amazing. I am not so sure this needs to be fixed in any way. I may be out of the loop on inside information. I just know what I see when I walk through the door of the Forsyth Library. Longer hours needed? I don't think so. Only thing I might agree with is to pay the staff. ANY time you involve the TANEY COUNTY COMMISSION. You are asking for trouble. Just like the Sewer tax. Although the Sewer Dept. Is now separated from the County. The commission still has authority over their budget. Not anything I would want for ANY organization.

The Branson library doesn't hold a candle to the Forsyth facility. New Jobs, they are already looking for ways to blow the money. Whats wrong with staffing it with volunteers. Forsyth does very well with volunteers.

Just one more thing that the commission can get their greedy little hands on, just how many things do they think they can spend money on and micro manage, in these hard times when they speak about how the budget is out of control, ask yourselves why would they take on one more entity that would cost money. Because they love to spend our money in their best interest.
