Fewer Traffic Deaths in 2011

There were 773 traffic fatalities in Missouri in 2011.  That’s compared to 821 the previous year.  Pace says 2011 marks the first year since 1949 that Missouri has had fewer than 800 fatalities due to traffic crashes.

The Patrol attributes the decline to several factors, including enforcement, education, engineering of the state’s roadways, and advances in emergency medical services.  Pace adds that the decrease is also brought about by good drivers.  He encourages motorists to travel the speed limit, reduce distractions, don’t drink and drive, and always wear seat belts.
