Volunteer Firefighter Pleads Not Guilty to Arson Charges

A volunteer firefighter is due back in Lawrence County Circuit Court next month after waiving formal arraignment on charges of arson.  

Twenty-year old Cody Gossett, a volunteer for the Halltown Fire Department, is charged in connection with fires in August of last year and in October of 2010.  Gossett was bound over last week, and is due back in court February 15. 

Also charged in connection with the incidents is 23-year-old Matthew Smith of Mt.Vernon.  He faces two counts of second degree arson and two counts of burglary.  Twenty-one year old Christopher Smith, also of Mt.Vernon, is charged with one count each of arson and burglary.  Both are due back in court January 26.
