Ziegenfuss says the new ultraviolet disinfection unit has more than triple the capacity of the old model, allowing the demand for additional capacity to be met as Hollister grows. The disinfection units are being switched out during a period of downtime, as mandated by the Department of Natural Resources. The new unit goes online around the first of April.

Ziegenfuss says Hollister has been saving up its share of Taney County sewer sales tax money to meet the 400-thousand dollar price for the higher capacity, advanced technology unit. The existing unit has been in service for more than 15 years. The replacement is being done during mandated downtime, according to DNR regulations.
