Thirty six employees of the Arkansas Forestry Commission, including more than a dozen firefighters, have been laid off from their jobs.  The layoffs were announced last Friday.

Arkansas’ state forester says although the layoffs will affect the Forestry Commission’s ability to fight forest fires, the cuts were needed.

Rural and volunteer fire departments across Arkansas depend on the Forestry Commission for assistance and equipment in fighting fires.
