It’s back to the drawing board - The Missouri Supreme Court has struck down a newly redrawn map of State Senate districts. Judges also ordered further review of congressional boundaries Tuesday, just weeks before candidates will begin to file for this year’s election.
The State’s High Court ruled a trial court judge must conduct a hearing and make a judgment by February 3rd, on claims that the new congressional districts violate the state constitution, because they were not drawn efficiently. Judges also ruled the senate map violates the constitution because boundary lines break up some counties into smaller pieces.
Districts are redrawn every ten years when new census numbers are announced. Missouriis dropping from nine districts to eight because population growth did not keep up with other states.
