The Missouri Department of Agriculture says 44 small dogs and a cat were removed
Tuesday from an unlicensed breeder in Crane.
Animal health officers working with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and the Humane Society of Missouri removed small pugs, chihuahuas, shih tzus and poodles from the home. According to a release, animal health officers identified numerous animal welfare issues, including unsanitary conditions, dogs without drinking water and dogs in need of veterinary care.
The animals were taken to St. Louis by the Humane Society of Missouri, and will be placed with licensed shelters and rescues.
