The Branson School Board has approved the purchase of 31 acres of land near the high school at a price of just over 452-thousand dollars.

School officials say the land will give them extra space for construction of a new activity center near the football field complex. The activity center was part of a no tax increase bond issue voters approved last spring.  The extra land may also be used for future expansion of the High School campus.

Money for the land purchase will come from the school’s capital projects fund.

Board members also approved renovating the recently purchased Corporate Woods Office Building off Bee Creek Road, at a price tag of 1-point-4 million dollars.  Corporate Woods will be the new home for the school district’s central administration, with work scheduled to be completed before the start of the next school year.

How does the school district buy and sell land without taking bids? Why does the school district continue to buy land when the city just took ownership of their own shopping mall. Can't that thing be used for a school?

I'd like to know why they paid $14,000+ acre, when I know there is land out there that can be purchased for $2500 acre. Given it's location I bet they bought it from the "lets overprice everything" land barrons, HCW.

First, a school doesn't go out to bid to purchase a piece of property. You could not get various bids on a single tract of land owned by one company or person. Next, according to State Law, a School District can sell Real Estate to a high bidder OR list the property with a real estate agent and sell the property on the market. The City taking ownership of the shopping mall will not benefit the School, as the two governmental entities not connected. Although they work together often, the use for the Mall needs to be for something that would generate sales taxes and property taxes. That would benefit, both the School and the City... Good Job Branson Schools for seeing the vision. Purchasing the land next door is a smart move... Keep up the good work...
