Taney County Collector Sheila Wyatt tells HometownDailyNews.com the source of the tax distribution error affecting school districts in the county lies with Railroad and Utility taxes, and the order in which the school districts appear in two separate reports. Wyatt has provided copies of those reports.  One indicates the tax amounts collected, while the other indicates how the money was to be distributed…

The error in the distribution of tax money for Taney County school districts lies with a computer program, and the order in which the school districts appear on two separate reports.  Collector Sheila Wyatt tells HometownDailyNews.com the issue is with the Railroad and Utility Tax, and reports dealing with collection and distribution of the tax.  On the collection side, the districts are listed in numerical order, R-1, followed by R-2, then R2G, which is the small portion of the Galena school district in Taney County.  That’s where the problem occurred, with the districts listed by name rather than number on the distribution side…

According to documents for December of 2010 provided by the collector, the amount disbursed to Kirbyville should have gone to Hollister, and the amount received by Hollister was intended for Branson, which received the amount intended for Forsyth.  Kirbyville was to receive none of funds from that particular tax.  The order of the districts has now been corrected in the computer program.

This proves the old saying .... You don't have to know anything but the voters. Unfortunately, this proves what happens when people with the best intentions in the world get into office with no qualifications for that job. This is a job for a CPA, and then he/she needs to be careful. There are lots of potholes in the road to success.

How did the tax collector miss this ? then How in the He@$ did all the school boards miss this ? there is a seriously bad problem here. the school boards should have noticed some serious shortfalls or windfalls in their budgets. worst of all it appears that Forsyth did not receive any thing which should have brought up a red flag. Kirbyville got more that they should have and look at the growth during those same years same deal for hollister and look a stadium and a football team.branson and forsyth where the big looser. where are all the auditors that audit these government body? each school board has and payed for these audits the differences of money owed should be payed personally by the collector, she doesn't mind spending many thousands of tax payers money to fight a losing battle to she her exorbitant pay increase
Error... - 01/26/2012 9:49:06 PM
This is beyond "error". She needs to resign now, step down, get out of the way, and pay for the audit out of her pocket to see how much money is involved. By the way, where is the pay she was suppose to pay back to the county???
