A request for an audit must come from the commission.  The state auditor’s office told HometownDailyNews.com it has no authority in this matter, that it’s a local issue, and that as of Thursday morning, the office had not been asked to conduct an audit. County Auditor Rick Findley says his office has no statutory responsibility in the matter.  The situation came to light when the Kirbyville school district released a statement saying it had been advised of the error by the collector’s office.  The errors also affect the Hollister, Branson and Forsyth school districts.
