A St. Louis County lawmaker is asking for a shorter Missouri legislative session. Republican State Senator John Lamping says he would like to shorten the session by over a month, having it end in late March, instead of mid-May, starting in 2015. His proposal has made it out of committee and could be debated on the floor of the State Senate this week.
The state legislature could save more than 400-thousand dollars a year according to estimates from Lamping’s office.
The proposal doesn’t say anything about changing lawmaker’s salaries, which are about 36-thousand dollars a year, if the session is shortened.
Lamping says his idea isn’t about the money – he says a shorter session would encourage lawmakers to be more efficient when they meet at the Capitol.
