Election for Sheriff: Edmonds Claims Dalton Lives in Stone County; County Clerk Says Address is Taney County

A candidate running for Taney County sheriff claims one of his opponents lives in Stone County because of the mailing address listed on the paperwork submitted when he filed for office.

Kenny Edmonds just after 3 a.m. Thursday, sent an email to several media outlets in the area, as well as other organizations such as the Rockaway Chamber and Downtown Branson Main Street Association, questioning Steve Dalton’sHampton Road mailing address in Reeds Spring. Edmonds went as far as posting on his Facebook page that Steve Dalton lives in Stone County, and asked anyone to tell him he was wrong.

HometownDailyNews.com contact ed Edmonds after conferring with the Taney County Clerk that Dalton does indeed live within the county, even though he has a Reeds Spring address:

Edmonds removed the online post within a few minutes after the interview, but did not say whether he would apologize to Dalton for the statement he made.

Edmonds told HometownDailyNews.com that he planned on going to the Hampton Road address in person to double check it’s location within the boundaries of TaneyCounty.

The third candidate in the fall primary is incumbent Sheriff Jimmie Russell.

I'm all for checking facts and making sure the guys lives in Taney County, but perhaps we should do that before we notify the media and Facebook. Not looking very smart so far!

Seems to me that a candidate would want to be certain of his charges BEFORE he levels them. I'm pretty sure we'd want the same from the Sheriff.

This guy is NOT Sheriff material. He's a nice enough guy but NOT Sheriff material. It's been YEARS since he's been in ANY kind of law enforcement. He used to deliver medications for walgreens most recently. I would feel MUCH safer knowing someone like Dalton or better yet, Russell, was in office because they KNOW the laws and they know how to handle situations that arise. Being in law enforcement, I know how critical it is to have someone you can look toward for not only answers but someone who gives discipline when things are done wrong. No Offense Edmonds but this just isnt for you.

If he performs the duties of Sheriff with the same zeal that he is showing as a candidate. I believe he will make a good Sheriff. The crooks in Taney County better get out of town if Edmonds is elected.

Does this guy not have a clue that there are many addresses in Taney County that have the post office in other counties. Also I did a little checking on him with the Mo. Dept of Public Safety who is the licensing agency in Mo. for peace officers. Mr. Edmonds is not nor has he ever been a licensed peace officer in Mo. (public info) which would be a requirement to be a Deputy as he claims. I also called the Sheriff's Office to see if he is a commissioned deputy. (also public info) I was advised that since Sheriff Russell took over 12 years ago, Edmonds has not been commissioned in Taney County. He could not speak as to if he was before. If he was it would have been an illegal commission since he has never been a licensed peace officer. (Webster Co. Sheriff was removed from office by the attorney general for commissioning unlicensed deputies.) If doing things such as making these public complaints without ever checking to see if he is right or not until afterwards is how he would run things, we would be in big trouble with Edmonds. I think he needs to look at the fraud laws and then the mirror.

Pitiful situation; we have an incumbent who can't even manage to keep a violent, wounded home invader in a hospital, and staffs the department with massively obese tailgating cellphone chatterers. A challenger who says there's nothing wrong with the incumbent, but he just feels like running. And this chap, who can only invent non-issues to make himself look silly. What a place!

He blames the Air Force for sending him a WWII Coast Guard Medal when they should have sent a National Defense Medal, and now he is blaming an unnamed "Friend" for giving him bad information. Get your facts straight it was NOT Sheriff Russell's fault that the "violent, wounded home invader" was released from the hospital and not picked up by Taney County. At the time he was in the hospital he was Greene County's responsibitity, NOT Sheriff Russell's. And given the budget that the Commission gives our Sheriff's department I think he does an excellent job. As for the cell phone chatting there is a lot of information that can not be sent out over the radio and the officer's have to call in and get it. Its done that way for several reasons safety being a big one.

Yep Edmonds should drop out now and give over his one vote to someone else. I think Russell does a good job but I do agree with the fat (obese) part. Used to be guidlines for cops like run more then 20 feet and so forth.

Edwards facebook page states: Certified - Missouri State Central Training Academy - Jefferson City - Commissioned - Taney County Sheriff's Office. Certified as What? Claiming to be a commissioned Deputy is a crime according to: 575.120. 1. A person commits the crime of false impersonation if such person: (1) Falsely represents himself or herself to be a public servant with purpose to induce another to submit to his or her pretended official authority or to rely upon his or her pretended official acts. Now Kenny why dont you have anything to say about Jimmie, You are doing great with all you points about Steve. You keep all of us that are really in law enforcement in stiches. Maybe if you dont go after Jimmie he wont reveal your arrest record

There is nothing in this article that sounds out of line! I thought Reed Spring was in Stone County too - so he had people ask a question and he got them an answer - finally a Sheriff that isnt afraid to ask/ answer questions. This guy obviously will not look the other way like Russell - there are places in this county Russell wont even send his guys out to. There are meth dens all over the place and he looks the other way. And Dalton lets talk about the dirty deeds this guy has done over the years and anyone who has lived here for any amount of time KNOWS exactly what I am talking about. Kenny Edmonds keep asking the questions and getting the answers! There are a ton of people on your side and if these other guys werent worried they wouldnt be making such a fuss!

I have a feeling you are making these guys extremely nervous. You are not going to let them get away with anything. This article doesnt seem to reflect the audio version- starting to wonder if this station has a bias seems like they are making a big issue out of nothing. This looks nothing like real journalism to me. Listen to the audio. And Kenny Edmonds keep letting everyone know you are going to ask the questions and get the answers and get the corruption out of our town.

I think this is great. I have never been more excited to vote for Sheriff before. I like that he asks questions. I like that he isnt just relying on the hill billies in this town for information. I like that he put it out to some people he obviously trusted for information. I LIKE IT!

I would have to question myself if I voted for a sheriff that was not even familiar with google map. If you drive out to Hampton Rd., there may not be a county line painted on the grass, but if you look on google map it is plainly shown. Be a sheriff? I don't think so. Go back to school and then show us your test scores.

A quick check on the computer shows that hampton road is in Taney County. Someone running for sheriff really should know what streets are located where. There are "Branson" addresses in Stone County ie Indian Point, Compton Ridge 265 area. So why is it a big deal that there is a Reeds Spring address in Taney. It's been that way for years. Really that was not a smart move on the part of Edmonds. Anyone can check the property owner records for free on their own computer using a link from the county's web page. It's not hard at all.

To those that think Edmonds did nothing wrong in "asking" about the address. On his facebook page he did not ask, he made the claim that Dalton lives in Stone County. Here is his post from his facebook page. the only thing i left off is Daltons address. you will notice, there is NO Question asked, only a statement "Steve Dalton's official address with the Clerk of Taney County is , Reeds ...Spring, MO 65737 - REEDS SPRING IS STONE COUNTY The mandate to qualify for campaigning is as follows....Sheriff - 57.010, RSMo - Resident of county for more than 1 year before filing - Resident taxpayer and elector of county - No felony convictions - how is he running for Sheriff? If the clerk of Taney County certified him viable for Sheriff - me and Jimmie at-least live in the county we are trying to represent! Tell me your thoughts - if you find out for yourself - notify the public - radio, news, etc. If this is an oversight it needs to be rectified"

I will have to agree that Mr. Edmonds should have bothered to check a map before openly questioning his legitimacy. I also agree that this lack of the obvious makes him a DoA for Sheriff. However, there is a real issue here... The sheriff is the ABSOLUTE authority in the county. We really need a sheriff who is willing to stand up to the Federal and State governments. This is OUR COUNTY and we need someone who is willing to defend it.

Your campaign is hilarious. But, guess what, there are no do-overs when you're running a Sheriff's Department. When you screw up, you put your deputies lives and Taney County lives in danger! Thank GOD you are running Kenny Edmonds - you are bringing up the issues that we were all asking. The Hatch Act is REAL and if you google Reeds Spring is clearly says Stone County. Keep going!!!!! Ask what we all want to know and carry on with your head held high. I would LOVE to know if either one of the other dufuses (Dalton or Russell) ever served in the military or in a war. It is obvious to everyone I know in this town that Russell and Dalton are just two dudes that have been running around this county with guns in their hands and no repercussions for their devious acts! Interesting to me that everyone seems in a huff about some of your comments Mr. Edmonds. I would venture to guess that all of this public display must mean you are touching nerves and that is what politics are all about. Lets face it the people on here that are championing for one of the other candidates was never going to vote for you. But from the looks of things there are tens of thousands of voters in Taney County - some will vote because of who they know or the name they know - some will vote because of the issues - some will vote based on looks - some will vote based on your wives and how they look - but most will vote for the one that they meet and feel they have a connection with! Point is all these "haters" were never on your side to begin with. So, if you read this Kenny Edmonds I feel it is imperative that you know you have touched many of us in this county and you have many many voters completely on your side!
