Bicycles and volunteers are needed
as Jesus Was Homeless launches its Yellow Bike program in the Branson community.
Jesus Was Homeless will be providing “free use” bicycles at area weekly and extended stay motels that will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We are extremely excited about the Yellow Bike program as it will be helping people meet a transportation need that was identified in our 2010 survey”, said Bryan Stallings, co-founder of Jesus Was Homeless.
To start with, the Yellow Bike program will have six locations with two bicycles each, complete with bike stand, signage, baskets and odometers on the bikes. “We placed odometers on the bikes to track their usage with the hopes of being able to make a case for public transportation or bike lanes in the future”, said Stallings. Businesses or individuals may also sponsor a location for as little as $1000. “We can envision this becoming a community wide program even catering to the tourists that visit Branson”, said Stallings.
Jesus Was Homeless will also be collecting new or gently used bicycles that can be repaired and put back into the program. Bicycles can be donated and dropped off at CenturyLink in the Gretna Plaza on Hwy 248 in Branson. If you would like to volunteer your time to help collect and repair bicycles, request a location or sponsor a Yellow Bike location, please contact Jesus Was Homeless at 417-335-0266.
