The Forsyth Panthers outlasted the State Ranked Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish 3-2 in 10 Innings Monday in Forsyth.
Seth Nilges gave up back to back hits in the first and fourth innings to account for the only two Irish runs, but righthander kept the opponents in check and kept the Panthers in the game, as he pitched all 10 innings striking out three and walking two. The Panthers took advantage of the game's only error to score in the first inning, but then were stymied by Irish starter Tyler Ast, who kept the Panthers bat's at bay. Both Panther runs were scored when Derek Hurst reached base and eventually scored on Billy Dees Sacrifice Fly. Both teams had chances to take the game, but the Panthers finally broke through in the bottom of the tenth when with one out, Hurst singled and stole second. After Hurst got caught in a rundown, he stayed in it long enough to get the hitter Dees to second base when Jay Kaufman lifted a single to left field that dropped between the shortstop and leftfielder to win the game over the Irish, the Number 2 Team in Class 3.
Forsyth goes to 7-4 and returns to action at home today against Blue Eye.
