Arnold P. Maples
Arnold P. Maples, age 90, of Springdale, Arkansas, formerly of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 in Springdale.
He was born January 25, 1929 in Browns Spring, Missouri, the son of Ward and Mary (Childers) Maples. On May 6, 1947 in Marionville, Missouri he was united in marriage to Neoma McCullah, who preceded him in death on September 10, 2019. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Clarence and Willis Maples and one sister Kathryn Faucher.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis Maples and his wife Pat of Columbia, Missouri and Danny Maples and his wife Brenda of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Deyann Corbin and her husband Bob of Springdale, Arkansas; one brother, Kenneth Maples of Marionville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Wendi Corbin, Heather Keeney, Karen Fischer, Bobby Corbin Jr., Christopher Maples, Jennifer Maples, Steven Maples and Joshua Maples and fourteen great grandchildren, Lauren Fischer, Jamey Fischer, Cada Fischer, Luke Fischer, Haley Johns, Zoe Johns, Chase Rudolf, Nikki Rudolf, Kristen Keeney, Kora Corbin, Nikki Corbin, Jake Corbin, Avalee Maples and Lindsay Maples.
Arnold grew up and received his education in Marionville, MO where he graduated from high school. At age sixteen he learned to operate the telegraph and went to work for the Frisco Railroad. A few years later he went to work for Rock Island where he taught the "Book of Rules" in a little red caboose that traveled over 13 states. When Rock Island folded in 1983, he finished his last 5 years at Southern Pacific in Kansas City and retired in 1988 - 43 1/2 years, three different railroads. On family vacations he always enjoyed checking out the trains he passed along the way and train museums. One of his favorite pastimes was running the church bus ministry in Shell Knob with his wife Neoma. He was head deacon at First Baptist Church in Shell Knob and was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Lowell, Arkansas.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Gary D. Gilmore will conduct the services. Burial will be at Marionville IOOF Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
