Barbara “BJ” Joann Bachman
Barbara “BJ” Joann Bachman, age 83, of Galena, Missouri, passed away October 27, 2019, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She entered this life January 31, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Alfred and Charlotte (Fitzgerald) Shukert. Her parents and son, David Bachman, have preceded her in death. Barbara was joined in marriage August 23, 1960, to Jim Bachman. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
Barbara was a hard worker, working for the Municipal Airport, Chiefs Truckline, Sears, Lawson Junction Café, and selling real estate. She also devoted her time as a den mother and was a great homemaker. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her husband and lived in many places, including Kansas City, Missouri; Lawson, Missouri; Branson, Missouri; Tennessee; Australia; Canada; and England.
She loved to be outdoors and would spend time enjoying the wildlife, feeding the deer and birds, gardening, painting, sewing, crocheting, and quilting.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim Bachman; daughter, Suzanne Bachman of Liberty, Missouri; daughter, Debbie (Mike) Swope of Lawson, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Phil Swope, Valerie (Brandon) Blankenship, Patrick (Megan) Swope, Nathan (Megan) Butrum, Sarah Butrum, Melissa Bachman, and James Bachman; three great-grandchildren: Leilani Blankenship, Matthew Butrum, and Tilie Butrum; brother, Don Shukert; niece, Amy Shukert; nephew, Doug Shukert; and many friends in the Lawson and Branson, Missouri, areas who will miss her smiles, fun, laughter, and great friendship.
