Cecil Wayne Lewis
Cecil Wayne Lewis, age 80, of Verona, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Oak Pointe in Monett, Missouri. Mr. Lewis, son of Willard and Leona (Lyon) Lewis, was born on August 19, 1938, in Napoleon, Missouri. He was a 1956 Fort Osage High School graduate in Independence, Missouri, and furthered his education with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from William Jewel and a Bachelors in Engineering from Columbia College. On July 17, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Rogers.
After graduating college, Cecil worked for the Army Civil Corps of Engineers out of Kansas City, and then transferred to the Department of Defense working with the Civil Engineers and Civil Service where he retired after thirty-three years at Dyess Air Force Base in 1997 in Abilene, Texas. During his career with DOD he spent twelve years working in Okinawa, Japan at Kadena Air Force Base. He earned several awards for several of his accomplishments in his career as an engineer.
After his retirement, he and Judy became full time RV’ers for fifteen years. Cecil, enjoyed golfing, antique buggies and horse drawn carriages, working with horses, bowling, and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Shrine.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Judy Lewis, of Verona; two sons, Roger Lewis and his wife Susan, of Lee Summit, and Rob Lewis and his wife Donna, of Aurora; three grandchildren, Naomi, Caleb, and Isaac; and one brother, Don Lewis, of Blue Springs.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at New Site Baptist Church in Monett, Missouri, with Pastor Aaron Weibel officiating.
