Charles Barry McIlvain
Charles Barry McIlvain, age 84, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at his home. He entered this life March 7, 1935, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Charles and Eta Fern (Hawkins) McIlvain. He was joined in marriage June 3, 1974 to Shirley Ann Bartlett. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
Charles proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps during Korea. His working years were filled with being a carpenter and serving in law enforcement as a police officer and sheriff’s deputy. Charles was a fan of country music and made many outings to Silver Dollar City for the country music festivals. He adored his wife and she loved him greatly; the two would sit and watch bull riding together and whenever he saw a St. Jude commercial, Charles wanted to help in any way he could, and he did. Charles loved his children and grandchildren dearly and it showed because he was a real-life superhero to his grandkids, known throughout as Superman. He was proud of the number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren he had, and he made it known. There is no shortage of love between Charles, his family, and the ones he considered family. Many hearts are broken at his loss, yet endless memories have been made.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Roseann Reed; son, Roy Don Gan; and grandson, Jonathan Gan.
