Charles “Papa Smurf” Ray Campbell

Charles “Papa Smurf” Ray Campbell, age 64, of Republic, Missouri, passed away January 26, 2021. He entered this life on November 16, 1956, in Hickman, Kentucky, the son of Edward and Jessie (Moran) Jones. He was joined in marriage on December 20, 1980, to Mary Lorene Herane.

A teacher and coach, Charles first experience was in Cayce, Kentucky where he coached football and taught Math, then he devoted 27 years at the Blytheville School District in Arkansas. For 15 years, he worked in the Environmental Services department at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Charles enjoyed sports, music, and electronics. He will be forever remembered and loved.



Charles is preceded in death by his grandparents: Edward and Jessie Jones; biological mother, Bonnie Dunn; uncle, Raymond Jones; uncle and aunt: Larry and Judy Jones; and great nephew, Dalton Koetter.


He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Campbell; sister, Cheyenne (Paris) Clanton of Scotland, Texas; sister, Bonnie (Mike) Moss of Attalla, Alabama; two nieces: Missy (William) Howard of Gadsden, Alabama and Brandi Noonan of Metropolis, Illinois; two nephews: Chuck (Stormi) Howard of Scotland, Texas and Austin (Tonya) Crawell of Wichita Falls, Texas; cousin, Larry Don (Dannielle) Jones of Water Valley, Kentucky; and other family members.
