Chang was the oldest of 7 children. She never had a formal education but attended English classes in the refugee camps in Thailand. When she arrived in the United States, she also took some adult learning classes. Even with the limited English she knew, she was still able to work many different jobs to provide for her children when they were young. She was brave, strong, and capable. She loved to sew, garden, travel, and being together and having conversations with family and friends. She was very giving and forgiving. She was an active and supporting member of the St. Peter Claver Parish in Sheboygan, WI since 1994

Her husband Ka Chang passed away in 1994 when they first moved to Sheboygan. The children were all still young at that time, but she took care of them all by herself. She was both mother and father to them. She gave them what little she could. A few years later Chang met her new partner Xai Vaj Yang and they had a child together, William. Even as adults, she still looked out for her children. She still gave them what little she had. Some of her children live across the states but she was the glue that held them together. She would call each and every one of them every so often to check on them. She was her children’s home no matter where she was. They will miss her and she will live forever in their hearts.
