Delores Jane “Dody” Brawner

Delores Jane “Dody” Brawner, age 83, of Taylorville, Illinois, formerly of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 17, 1937 in Taylorville, Illinois the daughter of Robert Carl and Marcella (Holmes) Martin. On March 10, 1973 she was united in marriage to John Brawner, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Terri Wilburn; one son, Robert William Martin; one step-son, Randal Brawner; two brothers and one sister.

Surviving are one step-daughter, Laura Estill and her husband Mark; three step-sons, John Brawner, Jr. and his wife Pam

and Charles Brawner all of Springfield, Illinois and George Brawner and his wife Claudia of Paris, Missouri; four brothers, Charles Martin of Springfield, Illinois, Everett Martin and his wife Barbara of Sugarhill, Georgia and Lonnie Martin and Rickie Martin both of Palm Desert, California; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Dody received her education in Illinois and graduated from Edinburg High School. For many years she was employed as a cashier and bookkeeper at Barney’s Furniture in Springfield, Illinois. In June, 1991 she moved to Shell Knob, Missouri where she enjoyed working at Rima’s Grocery Store several years and also volunteered at Thrifty Closet and Central Crossing Senior Center. She was a member of First Christian Church in Shell Knob and Eagles Auxiliary #4155. Some of her favorite pastimes were quilting, crocheting and reading. She enjoyed being a wife and mother and spending time with family.

Services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.

Contributions may be made to Cancer Research in memory of Dody.
