Later he moved to San Diego where he met Polly and they raised their family. For many years he worked as a pipefitter for Federal Civil Service. After their children were grown, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visiting with friends. In 2003 they settled in Shell Knob and made their home.

Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing and gardening. He was a man who never met a stranger, loved visiting with people showing and sharing his faith. As an adult he accepted Jesus as his Savior. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Shell Knob, where he held multiple positions.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Pastor Bob Gaddis will conduct the services.
