Janiece Lawson, age 88, of Exeter, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at her home.
She was born January 6, 1932 in Mountain View, Oklahoma, the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Charles) Taggart. On October 18, 1987 she was united in marriage to R.H. Buck Lawson in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, who preceded her in death on January 28, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sons, Ricky, David and Gary Strickland and one brother, Gene Taggart.
Surviving are one son, Kent Strickland and his wife Denise of Seneca, Missouri; a sister Nadine Whitley of Sulfur Springs, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren.
Janiece received her education in Carnegie, Oklahoma and was a 1949 high school graduate. For several years she was an office manager for Schmidt Construction in Miami, Oklahoma. In high school she was the state’s leading scorer in basketball in 1948-1949. She enjoyed watching college sports, was an avid OU Sooner fan and attended women’s basketball games at NEO A&M in Miami, Oklahoma. Some of her favorite pastimes were working in the garden and taking care of her flowers. Thirty-four years ago she moved from Oklahoma to Exeter to make her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cassville, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday October 5, 2020 at Taggart Royal Oak Cemetery west of Butterfield, Missouri under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville, Missouri. Pastor James Weaver will conduct the services.
