Jesse L. “JL” Callaway

Jesse L. “JL” Callaway, age 77, of Exeter, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

He was born October 8, 1942 in Woodward, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse Preston and Vada Dell (Glocksien) Callaway. On June 8, 1963 in Ridgley, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Myra Cantrell, sharing fifty-six and a half years together. Surviving are his wife, Myra; two daughters, Robin Day and her husband Bruce of Exeter, Missouri and Karen Mitchell and her husband Todd of Seligman, Missouri; one sister, Shirley Moore of Hondo, Texas; five grandchildren, Bruce Day Jr. and his wife Amy, Megan Day, Lauren Lumpkins and her husband Coda, Morgan Mitchell and Carlee Mitchell; two great grandchildren, Jarrett and Shelby Pike and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Joyce Beardslee.

JL grew up and received his education in Cassville, where he graduated from high school. For twenty-six years he worked as a printer at Litho Printers and had also worked at Efco for seven years and Able 2 Products for twenty-one years. In 2009 he retired from Exeter Fire Department where he had volunteered as a pump engineer. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, taking pictures, playing with his grandkids and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs football. JL was a very loving and patient husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of First Christian Church of Cassville.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at First Christian Church in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Sid Allsbury and Pastor Jerry Yarnall will conduct the services.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Christian Church of Cassville in memory of JL.
