Jo Ann (James) Dopp
Jo Ann (James) Dopp, age 82, of Kimberling City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2021.
Jo Ann was born to Dica Mae Hoskins (1913-2000) and Garland John James (1904-1953) in Pine Grove Township, Moniteau County, MO on Christmas Day, December 25, 1938. She would eventually meet her husband, Vernon Dopp, and the two were married March 16, 1957. Throughout her life, she lived in various parts of Missouri, Kansas, and California, before ultimately settling in Kimberling City, MO for the last 10 years.
During her working career, she was an office manager for an insurance company in California. Jo Ann will be remembered for her decades of dedicated service to others. She and Vernon served a service mission in the Bishops’ Storehouse, a program within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that focuses on helping the needy and less fortunate. Following her Church mission, she volunteered at the Red Cross in Victorville, CA where she led a chapter for several years. While volunteering for the American Red Cross, Jo Ann helped manage shelters for those displaced by natural disasters throughout the world. She was recognized in 2011 by receiving the Clara Barton Honor Award, which honors those that have dedicated years to the lifesaving activities and programs of the American Red Cross.
When they relocated to Kimberling City, MO she volunteered at the Kimberling City Senior Center and later became the President until she retired in 2020. JoAnn assisted on a weekly basis in preparing and delivering hundreds of meals to Seniors in her community. It was very common for her to make your favorite dessert, be it chocolate cake or blackberry cobbler, if she knew what you preferred.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Dica and Garland, her sister Ellen “Lee” James and brother Garland James Jr, as well as her son Roger Dopp. She is survived by her husband Vernon Dopp; sister Verna Ackerson of Lampe, MO and brother Jim James in Arizona; children Randy Dopp and wife Teresa of Lisbon, IL and Daughter, Kim Starkey and husband Dan, of Bakersfield, CA. as well as 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
All are invited to both the Visitation and the Memorial service. The Visitation for JoAnn will be held, Tuesday, April 6, 2021, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stumpff Funeral Chapel, Kimberling City, MO. The Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 9113 E, State Highway 76, Branson West, MO, with Bishop Dallen Gettling officiating.
