Karl Andrew Smith Jr.
Karl Andrew Smith Jr., 74, of Springfield, MO, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Karl was born in Lancaster, PA to the late Karl A. Smith, Sr., and the late Catherine (Benedict) Smith. He was a graduate of Penn Manor High School followed by attendance at Millersville University, both in Millersville, PA. Karl honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, both in the active component from 1966 to 1969 and intermittently in the Reserve from 1976 to 1985, achieving the rank of Sergeant. In civilian life, Karl had a lengthy career as a programming/systems analyst working as a contracted analyst across a wide range of industries. Later in life, Karl changed careers to serve as a public safety officer as part of campus security for Harrisburg Area Community College in Harrisburg, PA. Karl’s final years were spent in SE Kansas and SW Missouri to be closer to his adult children.
Throughout his adult life, Karl enjoyed spending his time studying the Bible and was an active member of many Christian churches. In his last days, he reconnected with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Karl is survived by one sister, Karen Dinkel (sp. Denney) of Panama City, FL; one brother, Denney Smith (sp. Bonnie) of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Kim Crabb (sp. Kevin) of Strafford MO and grandson Cameron; son Jared Smith (sp. Rebecca) of Holden, MO and grandson Zachary; son Joshua Smith (sp. Resha) of Webb City, MO and granddaughters, Kaley, Taylor, Bailee, and Riley.
Services will be held February 27, 2021 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield, MO. Karl’s cremains will be laid to rest with military honors at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Arrantgements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
