Marvin G. Mercer

Marvin G. Mercer, age 93, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Aurora Nursing Center in Aurora, Missouri.

He was born July 8, 1927 in Covington, Oklahoma the son of Glenn and Bertha (Ward) Mercer. On August 12, 1974 in Wichita, Kansas he was united in marriage to Ruby Ott, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Marsha Mercer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and two brothers, Howard Mercer and his wife Jean and Wayne Mercer and his wife Joyce all of Wichita, Kansas.


Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Tommy Mercer.


Marvin received his education in Kansas and graduated from Plainview High School in Wichita. On September 19, 1946 he joined the United States Army serving in both World War II and the Korean War. Most of his life was spent as an expeditor for the United States Postal Service from which he retired. In 1993 he and his wife moved from Wichita, Kansas to Shell Knob to make their home. He was a member of First Christian Church in Shell Knob and VFW Post 2203. Some of his favorite pastimes were gardening, working in the yard and being on the lake.


Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 25, 2021 at Shell Knob First Christian Church under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Pastor Tom Rees will conduct the service. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2203. Burial will be at Lake Park Memorial Gardens in Shell Knob.


Contributions may be made to Central Crossing Senior Center, Shell Knob, Missouri and VFW Post 2203, Shell Knob, Missouri in memory of Marvin.
