Mary Joanne “Joni” Elam
Mary Joanne “Joni” Elam, age 83, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away July 20, 2020 at her home.
She was born December 3, 1936 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the daughter of Donald Wayne and Lucille Alma (Stroebele) Williams. On October 2, 1965 in Evergreen, Minnesota she was united in marriage to Melvin Elam who preceded her in death on February 13, 2006. Also preceding her in death were her parents.
Surviving are one daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Tillmann and her husband Andreas of Armidale, New South Wales, Australia and two granddaughters, Laura and Amanda Tillmann.
Joni grew up and received her education in Iowa and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. In the early 1970’s she worked for First National Bank in Omaha, Nebraska where she became the first female bank officer. She was an Iowa farm girl but loved trips abroad, especially Paris France. In September, 1998 she moved from Freemont, Nebraska to Shell Knob. She was a member of First Christian Church in Shell Knob and enjoyed working at the Thrifty Closet and spending time with friends. She loved Shell Knob and the people living there.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at First Christian Church in Shell Knob under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Pastor Tom Rees will conduct the services. Burial will be at McCullough Cemetery in Viola, Missouri
