Richard “Willy” Allen Cockerham

Richard “Willy” Allen Cockerham, age 75, of Merriam Woods, Missouri, passed away May 19, 2020. Known as “Willy” or “Pappy” to those he knew and loved, he was born January 20, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Donald and Shirley (Hamm) Cockerham, who have preceded him in death, along with a son, David Cockerham. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.

Willy Cockerham

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Willy proudly served in the United States Army. Then, he labored many years in the roofing industry. A hard worker, Pappy also knew how to explore the great outdoors, whether deer hunting, fishing for catfish, or woodworking. Many memories were made pioneering through rendezvous with the many people he met through the years. The deepest joy in Pappy’s heart was the love of family and friends, who will treasure memories.

Willy is survived by his wife, Roxie Cockerham, and seven children: Lena (Roy) McElvogue of Des Moines, Iowa; Cyndi Basham of Leon, Iowa; Mindy Lane-Bloch of Des Moines, Iowa; Trisha Jones of Merriam Woods, Missouri; Bobby (Teresa) Basham of Des Moines, Iowa; Shiela (Greg) Rice of Churdan, Iowa; and Missy (Matthew) Todd of Newton, Iowa. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; a sister, Cheryle Sedar of Osceola, Iowa; and a brother, Donald Cockerham of Texas.

A gathering in Pappy’s memory will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com.
