Ruth Lucille (Birdsall) Vollenweider
Ruth Lucille (Birdsall) Vollenweider, age 106, of Cassville, Missouri, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 in her home.
She was born August 19, 1913 in Vale, Oregon, the daughter of William E. and Iona A. (Hill) Birdsall. On October 9, 1936 in Dallas, Texas she was united in marriage to Fred James Vollenweider, who preceded her in death on October 15, 1990. Also preceding her in death were one son, John; a granddaughter, Kristen; her sister Gayle Anderson and brothers Richard and Robert.
Surviving are one daughter, Janis Lynne Johnson of Cassville; five grandchildren, Mark Vollenweider and his wife Melissa of Cassville, David Vollenweider and his wife Chris of St. Louis, Missouri, Suzanne Delaney and her husband Dan of Gypsum, Colorado, John Schwab and his wife Abby of Denver, Colorado and Lisa Vollenweider of Loveland, Colorado; four step-grandchildren, Jim, Michael, Tony and Bernie Lipari and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She also had several surviving nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
Ruth graduated from high school in Fruitland, Idaho and attended Business College in Portland, Oregon. During high school, Ruth played on their championship basketball team.
Ruth joined her husband Fred to build the Vollenweider orchards located in Seymour, Exeter, and Lexington, Missouri. In 1965, they moved from Seymour to Cassville and continued to own and operate the orchards.
She was a member of Cassville United Methodist Church. Some of her favorite pastimes were gardening, playing bridge and working word puzzles.
Ruth was very worried about this virus and did not want a gathering at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Ruth requested that those wishing to make donations do so to the Community Food Bank or the Cassville United Methodist Church. PO Box B, Cassville, MO 65625.
At her request, cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
