Sam Norwine

Sam Norwine was born Wednesday, February 9, 1927 to Samuel and Gladys (Manes-Coulter) Norwine in their home at Woods Fork, MO. Sam grew up in Forsyth, MO attending Forsyth School. After a 2-year courtship, Sam married Nona (Casey) on April 24, 1948 in Lead Hill, AR. They enjoyed their life together until Nona’s death on November 11, 2015. In 1948, they purchased their first (of 3) farms in Bradleyville, where they were blessed with five children.

Sam spent his life working the farm. In the early years, he farmed row crops then switched to raising and milking dairy cattle. After a few years of milking, he decided to transition to raising beef cattle. He spent many years doing custom excavation work with his dozer. What he enjoyed most was working on the farm with his sons and later his grandchildren, both with the cattle & in the hay field. Sam was a hard worker all of his life and worked from daylight till dark seven days a week until he was in his 70’s. He continued to actively take part in working on the farm with his family until he was over the age of 85.

Sam was a member of the Lion’s Club in his younger years, a Farm Bureau member, he also helped the Ava Dept. of Conservation fight forest fires with his dozer in our local area. In 1984, he partnered with his son’s to open Norwine Sawmill and soon after, opened Prestige Wood Products in 1994, a cedar closet lining manufacturing facility. Sam was always willing to help out a neighbor in times of trouble.

Sam is survived by a daughter Susan Sivils and husband, Stan of Rogersville; two sons, Mark Norwine and wife, Gina, Joe Norwine and wife, Kim all of Bradleyville; a brother, Etcyl Coulter of Forsyth; six grandchildren, Lucas, Sammi Jo, Staci, Hailee, Nick, and Savannah and eight great-grandchildren, June, Sam, Zeke, Creed, Reed, Rhett, Sophie and Markee.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Gladys Coulter and Samuel Norwine; his wife; Nona and two sons, Sammy Lee and Samuel Casey (Sonny).

Special thanks to Sam’s care giver Polly and Hospice Compassus employees, Stacy, Densie, Marletta, and Rachel.

The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Bradleyville FFA to promote farm life to future farmers. Donations may be made at the visitation or mailed to: Bradleyville School PO Box 20, Bradleyville, MO 65614
