Senna Linn Kono

Senna Linn Kono, age 85, of Branson, Missouri, passed away June 9, 2021. She entered this life October 28, 1935, in Newton, Iowa. Senna was married August 14, 1955, to her high school sweetheart, L. Layne Kono. They were able to spend 55 blissful years together before his passing in 2011.

Senna was an accomplished violinist who loved music, especially when her husband would play the saxophone for her. She loved reading and taking care of her family and Sadie, her dog. She was involved in the United Methodist Women and Order of the Eastern Star. As an administrative assistant, Senna served the Chariton Community School District and Kent Farm Management in Chariton, Iowa. She served many offices of Engle Chapter 34, Order of Eastern Star, including Worthy Matron. Senna will be greatly missed for the music, love, and joy she brought to life.



Senna is predeceased by both her parents: Frank and Beulah (Bates) Fisher; both of her husband’s parents: Lawrence and Iris Kono; her sister, Pamela Meyers; and husband, L. Layne Kono.


Senna is survived by her two daughters: Karen (Keith) Halfpop of Branson, Missouri, and Darcy (Andy) Gresty of Banbury, Oxfordshire, England; her two brothers-in-law: A. Wayne (Kay) Kono of Newton, Iowa, and Richard Meyers of Underhill, Vermont; grandsons: Mathew (Ashley) Overland of Polk City, Iowa, and Nathan (Nicole) Overland of Branson, Missouri; granddaughter, Audrey Major of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandsons, Parker Layne Overland of Branson, Missouri; and Baby-Boy Overland of Polk City, Iowa.


Senna will be laid to rest with her husband on Saturday, June 19 at Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Iowa.
