Shirley M. (Herndon) Bowling

Shirley M. (Herndon) Bowling, age 82, of Exeter, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

She was born November 28, 1937 in Carroll County, Arkansas, the daughter of Tom and Audie (Reynolds) Herndon. On December 3, 1955, in Cassville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Leslie James “Les” Bowling, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Michael Bowling; one sister, Glenda Stephens and brother-in-law, Bill Stephens.

Surviving are one daughter, Cheryall Thomas and her husband Ronnie of Exeter, Missouri; one brother, Mack Herndon and his wife Jean of Caldwell, Idaho; two sisters, Peggy Stidham and her husband Bill of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Gayle Hull and her husband Billy also of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Chasity Pendergraft and her husband Chadd of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and Michael Thomas and his wife Jessica of Rogers, Arkansas; seven great grandchildren, Coy, Cassie, Clay and Carley Jo Pendergraft and Landrie, Garrett and Averie Thomas and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley grew up and received her education in Eureka Springs. For a few years she resided in California. Throughout her life she worked at Vollenweider Apple Orchard, Jumping Jacks and Justin Boot from which she retired. Upon her retirement, she and Les worked for the U.S. Forest Service and ConTel Telephone, doing maintenance. One of her favorite pastimes was helping in the church nursery and being a great caregiver of others. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Exeter.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Exeter, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Jerry Yarnall and Pastor Chadd Pendergraft will conduct the services. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Exeter in memory of Shirley.
