Virginia Jean (known by most as Jean or Jeanne) graduated from high school in Larned, Kansas. She and beloved husband, Jack Leslie, moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they raised their family and lived for 60 years, from 1940 to 2000. Jean was a timekeeper and keypunch operator at Beech Aircraft in Wichita.
Sewing, quilting, water skiing, fishing and swimming at Table Rock Lake in Missouri and spending time with friends, including those from the SOLOs group, were some of her favorite pastimes. Jean loved animals, particularly cocker spaniels, and “never met an animal that didn’t love her.”
She cherished lifelong relationships with many close friends, including a pen pal she corresponded with for nearly 90 years, even though they only met once.
After her husband passed, Jean moved to Ozark Villas in Shell Knob, Missouri, living there from 2000 to 2016. She was an advocate for senior transportation options, serving many years as a volunteer on the local board for the OATS Transit bus system, riding the bus multiple times a week and attending regular meetings.
Graveside services will be held on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Larned Cemetery in Larned, Kansas, at the family plot, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.
Contributions may be made to Oats Transit in memory of Jean.
