Walter Howard McIlhenny

Walter Howard McIlhenny, age 92, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, passed away September 11, 2020, in his home with family by his side. He entered this life February 17, 1928, in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, the son of Clifford McIlhenny and Mildred (Leonard) O’Neil. Walt was joined in marriage September 6, 1974, to Ann Griffin. His parents and a brother, Billy McIlhenny, have preceded him in death. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.

Walt treasured time in nature. His favorite pastimes led him to adventures traveling, exploring the great outdoors, and relaxing. Walt loved his family and the stories they shared together. Memories have been made over the years and will be recalled bringing smiles to the faces of those who knew him.

Walt is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann McIlhenny; four daughters: Dottie McIlhenny of Hawaii; Arlene (Danny Sr.) Ewing and nine children of Arizona; Kathleen (James) Kearns and three children of Missouri; and RuthAnn (Mike) Matthews and two children of Missouri; three sons: Colby McIlhenny of Pennsylvania; Clayton (Terri) McIlhenny and one child of Colorado; Walt McIlhenny and three children of Florida; two stepsons: Bob (Tereasa) Thompson and three children of Alaska and Tom Thompson and three children of Oregon; nineteen great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie (Ruth) O’Neil and family of Florida; and multiple nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held 3:00 p.m., September 20, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Ann McIlhenny.
