Wanda Genevive Hembree
Wanda Genevive Hembree, Reeds Spring, MO, daughter of Luther Otis and Thelma (Claybough) Arnold, was born September 10, 1925 in the couple’s home, and departed this life on May 27, 2020 at 94 years of age.
Wanda was a lifelong resident of Reeds Spring, with the exception of a small stint in California after attending St John’s Nursing College. She married her high school sweetheart, Alden Hembree on June 2, 1949 in Fairy Cave, aka Talking Rocks Cavern. Wanda was employed as a bookkeeper at Tri-Lakes Oil and Gas & Western Auto Store in Kimberling City and Emerson Canning Factory in Reeds Spring; and sales associates for English Clothing Store and Ray’s Market also in Reeds Spring. Afterwards she and her husband purchased and operated the Western Auto in Reeds Spring before he became the Southern Stone County Commissioner. She began working around the home when they were blessed with the late gift of their youngest child. She was a very loving mother of her four children.
She left this world peacefully in her home with her family members around her.
Wanda was preceded in death by: Her mother and father; her husband of 65 years; son-in-law, Ronald Lewallen; and her nephew Darrel Allred.
Survivors include: her son, Michael Hembree, Nixa, MO; daughter, Laura Lewallen; two sons, Max Hembree and wife, Cindy, Kevin Hembree and wife, Barbara, all of Reeds Spring; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy Spradling and husband, David of Bentonville, AR; two nephews; a niece; best friend of 88 years, Fern Butler, and a host of many family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at her home September 12, 2020 for close family members and friends. Donations in her honor may be made to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in Reeds Spring in lieu of flowers.
